CAD/CAM Dentistry
Learn more about our state-of-the-art method of creating personalised crowns
What is CAD/CAM Dentistry?
CAD/CAM Dentistry refers to a Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing process of creating porcelein crowns and onlays. We use state-of-the-art 3D scanning technology to capture the actual topography of your teeth, and then we can create a highly precise crown to fit your bite.
How is CAD/CAM Dentistry different?
Using computers to aid in both the designing and manufacturing process means our dentists can create more precise restorations to place in your mouth without human errors. This means our dentists can spend more time assessing your bite and making a perfect crown or onlay for you. Unlike traditional crown procedures which can span over multiple appointments, our CAD/CAM procedure takes place in one appointment from start to finish.
How long does the whole process take?
Unlike traditional crown procedures which can span over multiple appointments, our CAD/CAM procedure takes place in one appointment from start to finish. We only require approximately 2 to 4 hours to get you from nothing to having a completely personalised crown or onlay fitted exactly for your mouth. The total chair time required of you is approximately 1 hour. The rest of the time is for the CAD/CAM machine to produce the crown or onlay. CAD/CAM machines also enable our dentists to rapidly iterate on the crown or onlay, to make sure that it suits your needs exactly.
Will my teeth feel weird after the procedure?
Of course, there will always be some weirdness after getting a crown or onlay inserted, but rest assured that our CAD/CAM technology is capable of milling the porcelein to such accuracy that it will feel just like your original tooth!
